this is us.

Welcome to what I like to call my second home. It's where I like to be when my kids give me a few seconds to share what I love most- them.

I started my photography journey a little over two years ago just wanting to take better pictures of my kids. I fell in love and quickly jumped into my own business. I took pictures of a lot of other peoples kids, but was often too tired to capture the memories of my own. I have come full circle and am back to shooting the ones I love.

Right now my main focus is perfecting my art. While I have decided not to be in business at this time, I would love for this to be a place of inspiration and beauty. Somewhere I can share myself in my work. As photographer Nan Goldin once said, "This is a diary I let people read." I have many different projects in mind and can't wait to see them come to life.

I am an artist who loves to share the beauty of a smile, a connection and a laugh. I have a story to tell and a journey I would love to share with you.

Some people just have it.

You know it. That something that makes you smile. It can make you feel inspired to do something.

You can’t describe it. You can’t explain it.

It’s just something special.

And my dear Kristi, you have it!

You might recognize this beautiful girl from somewhere. I was lucky enough to shoot Kristi about a year ago. Check her out HERE. She was so fun and amazing to shoot and I just had to do it again.

Luckily for me Kristi works out at my gym and I see this pretty lady every morning. (side note since we are talking about gyms….Kristi is a machine. She is my idol. She doesn’t know this, but I work out everyday, so I can look a fraction as good as her. Trust me, you will see the evidence of her hard work at the gym down below…just try and keep your drooling to a minimal) Seriously.

Anyways, I emailed Kristi and told her I had to shoot her again. She was excited and so we had to make it happen.

While we were shooting, I asked her if I could shoot her at least once a week.

She laughed and agreed.

I was serious.

Well, before you go crazy with all of this reading, I will give you what you came here for….

nuff said.

but, then this wouldn’t be a becky post if I didn’t go into at least some of the things in my heart..right? I just gotta.

I think most of you know that I am not in business. Just not the right time in my life, I guess. One day maybe. But, I still LOVE taking pictures. (there’s no rule you have to be in business to have a photography blog, right?) Phew!

I love each day trying to perfect this craft. This passion that has filled my soul with such happiness. Not mommy me or wife me, not friend me, but ME- me. The girl who loves pasta. Who has an automatic smile when she wakes up to rain. The lady who laughs at all her husbands jokes (funny or not – she loves him a lot). The girl who feels free and invigorated when she does yoga. The girl who when she feels embarrassed plays with her hair. The woman who loves many. The woman who knows she is a daughter of God. That woman who just loves taking pictures. And she (okay, not sure why I am typing in third person still)…I…love LOVE love sharing it with you.

The ART is not perfect- far from it. There’s mistakes, there’s bad days. There are days when I think, I have no right to take one more picture.

But then I remember that this is a journey. A journey that is far from anything claiming to be perfect. Far from anything claiming to know everything. Nobody does. It’s supposed to be filled with days that are discouraging and disheartening. It’s supposed to make you frustrated. Those moments, days, hours, months, years, make us better photographers. Better people.

I guess what I am saying is to never give up. Press on through those hard days when you can’t seem to do anything right. Hold on, just a little bit longer.

Why am I posting this? Not sure. I guess we all need reminders. We all need a hug and a reassuring word. So this is me hugging you and giving a nice little swat on your behind to get back in the game. To start over tomorrow. To shoot for you and love what you do.

I think this was for me too.

mmmmkay, enough mushy stuff.

I was invited to join some awesome photographers in Salt Lake to shoot some high school seniors. They were a blast. They are in drama. They knew how to work it, ya’ll!!

So here are two of them. Two beautiful, young, good hearted high school seniors who just really ROCK.

ps- I used Off camera flash for all of them except for the ones in the alley of the handsome Paul.

that’s how my beautiful sister-in-law Missy does it. I was in Las Vegas last week and seriously overloaded on pictures! I can’t complain though! I had the time of my life. Plus, I have lots of FUN pictures to share with you all ♥ my friends ♥

First up is Missy. The hubbs sister has graced my blog many times, like HERE and HERE but NEVER like this. She brought her A-Game, that.is.for.sure!

When I called her to tell her that I was heading to Vegas and I wanted to do pictures, she sent me to her Facebook page to check out her new hairdo. I think I might have squealed with giddiness when I laid my eyes on that beautiful red awesomeness. The ideas and inspiration started flowing in this crazy brain of mine and the excitement and smile started creeping on my face.

Miss brought many awesome ideas and outfits to the table, which just took these images to the next level, but really, I think they turned out so great because of her beauty. Inside and out. She is beautiful.

We were at this awesome location until there was not one ounce of light left. I had a blast playing with both the yummy natural light and also my ultra fabulous off camera flash.

Thanks Missy for just being you.

So coming up, we’ve got images from a friend/photograper get together *sigh* SO amazing! My little MIRACLE baby, family, the kids….yadda yadda yadda…it’s good trust me

Also coming up this week…some helpful hints using these photos. Like shooting in full sun (as I did in all of these), importance of angles, and anything else I can think of that’s well…helpful.

The sun was peeking out today, so I got the girls dressed and we ran outside for a couple shots. It was a lot colder than it looked from my kitchen window so they only gave me a few shots before lips started turning purple and the shivers over came them.
