Has it been TWO YEARS already? – be ART

Well almost. August will be my two year anniversary of taking pictures! Can you believe it? I can’t. I decided to get this up today because I will be leaving out of town this weekend and August is looking reeeeaaalllyyy busy. So last August I did my 1 year anny. See HERE for some laughs and maybe some hope. My second year turned out to be much better of a photography year. I feel while of course always learning new things, I really developed my style. Let’s take a look.

ps- it’s a long one!

When I ended my 1 year anny post I was headed to the Secret Workshop, hosted by the totally awesome Cheryl Muhr. This really kicked off a great year of shooting. Not only was the workshop great, but I was able to meet my photography idol, Tara Whitney. Yep it’s true. I have proof :)

These two girls were my FAVS. They were so great in front of the camera.secret two
But really all the kids were great.

So I came back from that with a new sense of confidence. Did a newborn shoot and finally felt l could handle those little buggers. :)

While I feel I was taking consistently good properly exposed, properly focused images, I could still sometimes go a little overboard on the post processing. I have learned that you don’t always have to do everything to a picture just because you can. Sometimes it’s perfect being just what it is.2 sade

But on a positive note, I also learned to be able to see a picture for what it could be and not always what it was. I loved this picture of Sadie, but knew I didn’t love it as was…so I took it….2 fix

Like I said earlier this is the year that I really developed my sense of style.
I went from this….shot in late ’07 of my in-laws
early gregn nette

to this…different post processing and look all together- shot in ’08new gna

Part of finding my style was getting out of the play it safe shade and get into the light. Full sun became my friend…sun cavewyatt sunmegan sunsun

Another important part of my style was finding different angles to shoot, focal lengths, off beat compositions and…distortion became my friend…(man I sure did make quite a few non people friends) hahafun

But still, capturing the connections and personalities was always the most important…connections

So what are my goals for this next year? I am shootin for me. I will not be in business so I can focus on the art. Focus on shooting things and people that I love. I can’t wait to get good at off camera flash. I would love to do charity work. I have a lot of fun things in mind and can’t wait for them to happen. I just wanted to say that I love my family. They support me 100%. My husband has been by my side through this entire journey and I love him so much! Our little boy will be here soon and our family will be closer to being complete.my fam

Thanks for looking! Thanks for sharing in my journey. I encourage all of you to do the same. Reflect back and see how you have grown. It really gives you a boost that you might need.

CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THE NEXT YEAR WILL BRING TO ALL OF US! I have a lot of fun shoots coming up. The next few weekends will be crazy with fun shoots. See ya soon!

I ♥ Faces (beach) – be ART

Okay guys (and when I say guys I mean mostly gals- well and maybe a few guys) :) I found a really fun site that I thought I would share. You might have heard of it, but I hadn’t until a few days ago soooo…. I ♥ Faces is a place where you can enter your photos into their weekly contests. I have decided to do this weekly as I think it would help to push me shoot more creatively and with purpose. This weeks theme was beaches. Ummm yeah I just moved from Vegas to Utah…we aint got no stinkin beaches. *tear* So I had to pull one from a while ago when I was in So. Cali. I love this shot of Miss. She looks so beautiful and stylish…I decided to use it. It reminds me of such a fun weekend. A weekend filled with no kids, sun, beautiful sunsets, lots of laughs with my sweet sister-in-law and chocolate covered apples. *mmm drooling.*

So check them out and enter!!! It will be fun! See ya over there.

Miracle – be ART

This is maybe one of the most dearest posts I have written in my almost two years of blogging. Maybe my most important pictures I have taken yet as well. Words really can’t express how I feel about this baby. Or about how I believe that life is such a miracle.

Many of you know my niece Jayda was born when my baby sister Ashley was only 26 weeks along with her pregnancy. Ash and her adoring husband Chase have been through something that I cannot imagine myself being strong enough to endure. They have lived at the hospital for almost 2 months now. They wake up, Chase goes to work and visits any moment he can and Ash pretty much lives there. Jayda was born weighing only 1 lb. 9 oz and has been fighting ever since.

I was able to visit them almost a month ago to take these pictures. I went there the first day I got to So. Utah and was able to visit our little miracle. To be honest she really takes your breath away when you first meet her. I was in total shock that a human being could survive being that small. Her body looked so frail, yet I could tell her spirit was so strong. She was beyond beautiful. She was beyond special. She was a gift sent straight from God. Showing us all that He does exist. We spent hours there just staring. Loving her every movement. Breathing in her every breath.

The second night was pure magic. I was able to be there for some amazing firsts. Her first bath, her first kiss from mommy and daddy. Her first time being held in her daddy’s hands. I couldn’t believe this was all on the night that I was there and that I had my camera ready. Again another amazing miracle in itself.

My sister and I have always been close. We of course have had our sister fights and arguments, but for the most part she means the world to me :) But watching her adore her sweet little angel gave me a whole new love for her. I respect this woman more than anyone. She shows what the meaning of mother truly is. I look at some of the images on this video and cry. The way she lovingly looks at Jayda. Only the love a mother could have for her baby. Then I am beyond joyful that she found herself such a wonderful husband. Chase is the most proud and loving dad. Jayda truly is lucky!

So here is her story….so far. A story of strength and courage. A story of love and inspiration. She will make you want to be a better person.

TO SEE IN HD (which I highly recommend) VISIT THIS LINK HERE: http://vimeo.com/5778964 And make sure your computer is not muted. The song is perfect. Also when you get to the link make sure you press the button with the four arrows pointing different directions. It will make it full screen….an absolute must!

Jayda is now doing so well. She is over 3 lbs. now. I can’t believe it! She will be in Salt Lake next week to have her surgery on her blocked intestines. She has defied all odds and as we all thought is truly a fighter.

Thanks for looking and letting me share a very special little girl with you!

Sometimes… – be ART

…you have those days where you just want to SCREAM!…scream

Sometimes you have those days when you eat pancakes and eggs for dinner… food

Sometimes there are moments when you can’t keep your tongue in your mouth… tounge

Then there are those sometimes when all you can do is cry…cry

But then you feel better and are just so dang sweet…sweet

EVERYDAY I look at these beautiful faces and fall more and more in love…

A lot of times I get so caught up in making the perfect portrait of my kids, that I forget to capture their laughs, their smiles, their cry’s and their little spunky attitudes. Last night I made myself capture their true beings. The faces that I love so much. Not being perfect angels, but being themselves. Editing them this morning made me tear up. Make sure you make time for those snapshots that may not be perfect but are honest and are still so beautiful. I will be posting many more “snaps” of my kids…whom I adore.

Thanks for looking!

Spread the word! -be ART

Okay Utah (Salt Lake and Utah County) peeps…I need a willing subject! I am wanting to practice some off camera flash lighting outdoors and need a victim errr subject. Obviously I am not getting much cooperation from my children, my hubby is too busy and well I think we are all sick of looking at me for now. I am looking for an adult or young adult who can sit there, be patient, smile pretty and well do whatever I ask. haha! Really looking for someone who has no fear in front of the camera and will give me many expressions. It will most likely take 1-2 hours.

Images will be posted on this here blog, so a signed model release will be needed.  :)

This shoot will be of no charge to you. BUT since that is the case, I am looking for certain clothing choices and looks. So if you are willing to get a hold of what I am envisioning then I would love to use ya.

Shoot me an email if you are interested with a photo attached. It can be a simple snapshot.  I would love to base the shoot and style off of your look.

Time, clothing, locations and my ideas will be discussed through email. beckyearlphotography@gmail.com

Thanks faithful blog readers!
